Title:Shoe Shine Boy
Identifier: dv_00092
Related:  dv_00095
Location:3Y300
Description:Film of shoe shiner Floyd Jackson arriving by plane, greeting [family], then shining the shoes of executives at the Bankers Mortgage Building and the Commerce Building. Label on box [not from creator] reads: "Shoe Shine Boy, includes Jesse Jones, Fred Heyne and Oscar Holcomb, 1954". Title from 1985 finding aid was "Shoeshine Box". An August, 27 1954 newspaper article from the Lubbock Morning Avalanche entitled "Shoeshine Anyone? All That’s Needed Is Million Dollars" seems to cover the same event, and gives the additional information that Jackson made the trip as a contestant on the TV game show "Truth or Consequences", and received $100 for each shoe shine. The article also names R.E. (Bob) Smith, W.A. (Bill) Smith, J.M. Rockwell, Ralph Johnston, George Brown, Harmon Whittington, John Jones and Curtis Japhet as executives receiving shoe shines at the Bankers Mortgage Building. Black and white picture with no sound. Reel box was sent from Bob Gray at KPRC-TV in Houston to Jesse Jones at the Bankers Mortgage Building in Houston. Due to poor condition of the original film, the digitized copy has some frame jumping and occasional blur, as well as emulsion breakdown visible throughout. A less damaged but more blurry version captured from an earlier VHS transfer of the film can be found as dv_00095.
